The night was quiet, hauntingly so. The Starship Enterprise was on her maiden voyage and the very first planet they came upon seemed promising. The mission of the Enterprise was to explore such new worlds as the one she had just arrived at. A overly thorough analysis of the planet revealed its atmosphere was strong, though the oxygen was much more plentiful that Earth's, there were no glaring threats to be found in the planets air. Captain Kirk had been anxious to bestow a name upon this discovery however he had been quickly informed that they hadn't actually discovered a new planet, they would simply be the first to explore it. Still, the young Captain took to calling the world Htrae (Ha-tray). Spock assumed (and correctly so) it was purely to be of annoyance.
They were told the planet supported no intelligent life as of yet, but there were numerous lifeforms calling the planet home. That wasn't the most exciting news for Kirk, as he deeply looked forward to seeing other cultures up close, but the aspect of discovering new species still held a bit of enticement. This was't something he could go into alone though, or so Spock and Bones kept insinuating. It seemed none of the cabin would have the Captain of their ship going down onto a strange new planet by himself, especially when he would be surely outclassed by wild animals. For a moment Kirk contemplated showing them his blaster to change their minds, but he couldn't really see that playing out too well. Instead he chose to bring a tag along who may be better equipped for a mission such as this.
Her name was Cassandra...something. He couldn't remember, and he honestly hoped that she wouldn't somehow realize he'd forgotten her name. Was it really that big a deal though? He was the Captain of a Starship that was filled with a crew in the hundreds, he couldn't be expected to recall everyone's name. Walking briskly in direction of the transporter room Kirk spoke up to the woman trotting after him, "You ready to get off this ship, Ensign?" He remembered her ever since that day they happened to sit down across from one another at breakfast. Maybe her full name hadn't been remembered but Kirk remembered she was a zoologist, making her the perfect candidate for this mission. Also, she looked so eerily familiar.

Cassandra could not hide her excitement at the prospect of exploring a previously undiscovered world. Who knew of what wonderful and amazing lifeforms dwelt on the planet? The sense of adventure filled her, drowning out her fear of the possible danger that they could face on the surface. As the ship's only Zoologist, she was the most suited for the mission in her opinion, no one else on the crew at the moment could match her knowledge on all things zoological. It was a great honour to be working with Captain Kirk, as well as a great opportunity to explore, study and document the creatures of the world. She might even be able to name a few of the species that the pair may discover. That would be wonderful, it would fulfil one of her dreams.
"I am ready and able Captain looking forward to it" Cassandra was excited to be around animals once again or if not being around them, being near and able to observe them rather than on board the starship. "Any clue as to what we might find planetside Sir?" She had no idea, but her imagination ran wild conjuring all sorts of crazed creatures. Cassandra wanted to record everything, all things that they came across. She doubted that they would have sufficient time to record everything and perform a proper study of the planet and it's rich biodiversity. Still she could hope that there would be the opportunity to.
