Out in the elements - and Kirk had no real clue what he was doing. Why was he out here? The question seemed to bounce around in his head with each grip of uncertain rock his calloused hands landed on. He was away from the ship, thanks to Scotty he could beam to and fro whenever he pleased - though that wasn't technically approved of. Today he chose to rock climb, why? - well why not? Actually, he could think of a lot of reasons for why not at the moment. From the blisters and cuts in his palms, the ache between his shoulder blades, the sweltering sun that somehow kept all clouds away, and the height. Oh the height, who knew mountains were so tall.
James Kirk was a thrill seeker, he liked to live life on the edge and he didn't like anything that was mundane. At the onset of this adventure, beaming down to Earth and going bare in effort to climb a rocky mountainside sounded fun. Adventurous, even! No, it was just dumb. Or at least he could admit to himself in his own mind, but were anyone else to inquire about his choice of time passing then of course Jim would have no choice but to claim the excitement and hell of a time he was having. Some might call that a personality flaw, those some were not James T. Kirk. He would conquer this mountain and he would conquer his own dislike of this very event in itself. This was an endeavor that he began, therefore it needed to be seen to the end.
He operated in shorts and sneakers that provided only a small ounce of grip to them. James' shirt had long been discarded, the heat alone had made it a discomfort, but once he'd begun exerting himself and sweating (profusely), the item had to be done away with entirely. Strands of hair lay soaked on his forehead as well as at the nape of his neck, carefully illustrating the amount of sweat his body was producing as he went about his rigorous climb.

Renna was completely okay with being on Earth, though she wouldn't hesitate to admit that a starship was much, much more exciting. She wasn't like the Chief Medical Officer, who apparently thought space was dirty. What could be more not dirty than space? She found it all fascinating, not as much as medicine, but still, it was a good time in her opinion. As long as she didn't have to battle for her life. They were grounded for the moment, on Earth, probably so everyone could have a little bit of a break. Ren didn't necessarily need a break. She had only just gotten out of the Academy when she'd been assigned to the Enterprise for its five year mission. But the others probably needed a break. She was familiar with its history, and she had a few worries about serving aboard the ship, however exciting it might have been.
She had been completing a report, mostly on the health of the crewmen that would be going along with them. She was also fully aware that when she got distracted she might never get these reports to the captain. Dr. McCoy would probably not be happy about that. Ren didn't want to be known as the medical officer who didn't carry her own weight, so she asked where the captain might be. She made her way to the Bridge, where she was only told that he was on Earth. That information had sent her to the Transporter room, where she was told that she could in fact be beamed down, but she probably shouldn't interrupt anything. Well, she needed to get these reports to him before she earned a mark in her file.
The Ensign did not expect to see what she was seeing when she was beamed down to the surface. Kirk wasn't anywhere on the ground. Did they put her in the wrong place for a few giggles? She looked up, her hand over her eyes because that just seemed to be what people did when they looked up, and saw a man climbing without a shirt. She tilted her head, as much as she could, and noticed it was her captain. She was admiring her captain's form. Oops. When she realized who it was she was even more confused. “Er... Captain?” she called up “May I ask what you're doing?” What if he fell and died? She didn't think she could take Commander Spock as a captain.
