STRENGTHS: Commanding, a good judge of character, loyal, forgiving, able to think well under pressure, tactical
WEAKNESSES: Often operates on the fly, doesn't think of consequences to his actions,
GOALS: Being Captain of the Enterprise, Kirk's main goal at this point is to successfully carry out his 5 year mission: to boldly go where no man has gone before. Another, more personal goal, would be to be taken more seriously by Starfleet and questioned less on his "colorful" methods.
OVERALL: All in all Captain James Kirk is a man of loyalty and dedication. At times he can appear carefree and reckless but that is only because he doesn't think life can be enjoyed by worry about every little detail all the time. He lives, and operates, much more in the moment; going by gut feeling and personal judgement rather than protocol and guidelines. He's a true friend through and through, always ready to throw himself on the line to help a fellow officer, or anyone for that matter. He is flexible and adaptable, often feeling at odds or completely ignored when pitted with someone so rigid and unmoving in their way of thought. Kirk is incredibly resourceful and is not afraid to think out of the box or even over step certain bounds if he sees and believes it will bring about a helpful result. He is not afraid of conflict, and at times even appears to instigate it.

OVERALL HISTORY:
James T. Kirk was born into this life just as his father was brutally leaving it. First officer of the USS Kelvin, George Kirk, was left alone on his ship after evacuating the entire crew, along with Kirk's mother, Winona, just as she was going into labor with him. The USS Kelvin had been dealt substantial damage to her thanks to the unexpected attack by a Romulan mining ship piloted by a man calling himself Nero. In a last ditch effort to thwart the menace Nero, George piloted the Kelvin directly into the Romulan ship in a fiery kamikaze attack, just as his son was being born in a medical shuttle. James' family originated from the North American continent on Earth, and after the Kelvin incident that is where his mother returned to raise her children. James was rebellious coming up, most likely due to the fact of never knowing his father. His mother showered him with love and never once tried to keep the memory of his father away from him, but a young boy without a father around is a young boy who acts out. And act out young James did.
While he was apparently bright, Jim was incredibly dumb; using most of his time to get on the bad side of the law. He had many scrapes with law enforcement and always found it funny when any official would try to give him a stern talking to. He was a kid without a purpose, no path, and was too stubborn to accept guidance. He was wasted potential; smart, capable, and confident, but he had almost nothing to apply it all to. So he was mostly self-centered, cocky, and girl-crazy. It was one night in a local bar hitting on random women that he would cross paths with cadet Nyota Uhura, who would eventually become a close friend of his. She initially found him uninteresting and annoying, to say the least, but his evident knowledge of xenolinguistics surprised and somewhat impressed her. Hitting on a Starfleet cadet however seemed like not the best idea, as it soon riled the attitudes of a few male cadets who went on to initiate a bar fight with Kirk.
The fight would come to a close only upon the appearance of USS Enterprise Captain Christopher Pike. Pike, familiar with the USS Kelvin, George's sacrifice, and the misguidance of young James, would pressure the boy to apply himself and make something of use out of his talents that were apparently going to waste otherwise. James initially laughed off any suggestions and challenges made by Pike but somehow the man really got to him, and the rebel found himself enlisting in Starfleet Academy. There, aboard the shuttle for Academy, Jim would meet his closest friend Leonard "Bones" McCoy.
In Academy Kirk met the half-Vulcan, Commander Spock. The two initially clashed because of their differing methods of dealing with situations, best shown when James "cheated" on his third attempt of the Kobayashi Maru test and actually beat the "no-win scenario" which Commander Spock had designed. He was later investigated and a hearing was called to discuss the cadet's cheating, but an emergency distress signal from planet Vulcan interrupted the hearing. As a Starfleet Academy cadet, Kirk was top of his class in survival strategies and tactical analysis and the assistant instructor in advanced hand-to-hand combat. He was also Treasurer of Starfleet Academy's xenolinguistics club.
James Kirk first entered the Enterprise as a stowaway, having been suspended from Academy for his academic dishonesty charges. It would later turn to be a good thing that he did, as Captain Pike had fallen into Nero's trap by beaming onto the man's ship, but not before placing Kirk as First Officer of the Enterprise. As Captain, Kirk devised a strategy along with Spock (who he had come to understand and respect) to board Nero's ship and take back Pike as well as defeat the Romulan. After the successful mission Kirk was appointed as official Captain of the USS Enterprise, with Spock taking position as his First Officer.
One year later, Kirk violated the Prime Directive on Nibiru, saving Spock's life while exposing the Enterprise to the primitive Nibirans, who began worshiping the ship as a god. Returning to Earth, Pike informed Kirk the Admiralty headed by Alexander Marcus would be sending him back to the Academy, and that perhaps he had been promoted too soon. That night, Kirk drowned his sorrows in a bar, when Pike appeared to inform he had been made the Enterprise's new Captain and immediately convinced Marcus to let him appoint Kirk his first officer, because he still had faith in the young man. The pair would then attend at special briefing after an attack on the Kelvin Memorial Archive. The initial attack was simply a ruse to get all important Starfleet personnel in one place and then mount the true attack. In this attack by "John Harrison" Christopher Pike was killed. In the aftermath of the attack Admiral Alexander Marcus allowed James Kirk to once again become Enterprise Captain, and gave him the task or tracking and executing John Harrison.
Harrison was not what he seemed, in fact he was in truth an augmented superhuman by the name of Khan Noonien Singh, recruited by Admiral Marcus to create weaponry for a war against the Klingons. Uncovering this conspiracy revealed that Admiral Marcus was the true villain who had caused Khan to take a villainous path of his own. Marcus suddenly showed up in the Dreadnought-class ship the USS Vengeance, demanding Kirk hand over Harrison. Kirk revealed he knew the truth, and defied the admiral by warping the Enterprise to Earth, where Khan would stand trial and expose the conspiracy. However, the Vengeance was capable of catching up with the Enterprise in subspace and fired on the ship, halting it as it arrived outside Earth. With the Enterprise damaged, Kirk knew he had to reactivate the warp core. However, entering would flood him with radiation, and as Kirk had no time to put on a containment suit he decided to sacrifice himself. He managed to reactive the core but just as Scotty had warned him, James Kirk began to slowly die from the radiation, but not before bidding a heartfelt goodbye to his close friend Spock.
Thankfully Dr. McCoy had been testing Khan's blood and realized that if they captured Khan alive, he could help to revive their fallen Captain. Spock took the dangerous mission to chase Khan down on Earth, aided by Uhura who was able to convince Spock that keeping Khan alive was the only way to save Kirk. After the blood transfusion from Khan (and the latter's subsequent placement into cryo-stasis) Captain Kirk was revived and once again in full health. Months after these events, the entirety of Starfleet mourned and celebrated those lost as well as rechristened the USS Enterprise, just prior to the ship beginning its five year mission to explore strange new worlds and discover new civilizations.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:
"Well," A playful smirk tugged on the pouty lips of James T. Kirk, "I am a Captain. Maybe I'll let you sit in the big chair." His voice was teasing, playful, and so very alluring. The woman he spoke to giggled and turned her head shyly. She swept her short purple hair aside and stared past uncooperative strands at Kirk with her golden eyes. Her body language was telling him all the things he wanted to hear and that left the Enterprise captain feeling that all was a pretty done deal. His right hand moved a glass from the counter of the bar and tipped the remaining amber colored liquid down his throat, while a smile shined over the rim of the glance at his lovely company. "Well tomorrow. The ship's on lock-down tonight. How about we entertain ourselves at my place instead then." The woman was just about to respond in agreement when Kirk spotted the familiar dark hair and pensive face of a particular chief medical officer. The apparent agitation of Bones only made Kirk smile wider.
"There you are. Dammit, Jim," He rushed toward the other man, completely disregarding the female between them. Jim stood quickly, hands up in surrender as he urged McCoy to back off. "You're a doctor, not a babysitter?" Kirk responded in a joking manner, but (no surprise) Bones was not amused. "I was going to say messenger! Why're your communications off?" He wore a frown that was not at all new to the blond standing less than two feet away from him. Kirk didn't really need to voice a reply to that question, he'd known Bones long enough that he thought the man should be able to figure it out for himself. Standing there in silence he moved his eyes off of Bones and toward the girl with him, hoping the other man would catch the hint. "Kinda busy, Bones." Whatever medication or vaccines or whatever he wanted to shoot Kirk up with could wait.
"No, you will be busy. Everyone needs to report to the Enterprise, or rather everyone has - we're just waiting on you! And you're lucky I'm being so calm and nice about this, it took some convincing from me and Nyota to get Spock to not leave you here." Kirk laughed, not that it was inherently funny but just because he could imagine the still-faced Spock suggesting it was correct protocol to take leave in Kirk's absence. "He's acting Captain at the moment, so say goodbye to your friend - hello," Bones broke sentence momentarily to shake the girl's delicate hand, before resuming his words for Kirk. "And let's go before Spock leaves the both of us."
The playful smirk of Jim's was gone, now replaced by a solid and serious expression. "Spock's acting Captain?" Bones nodded. "He's currently Captain of the Enterprise." Bones nodded again. "He's sitting in my chair?" Now Bones smiled. He couldn't move fast enough to keep up with Kirk as he raced back for the shipyard to reach the Enterprise.
