OVERALL HISTORY:
Montgomery Christopher Jorgensen Scott was born in Scotland, Earth on March 3, 2222. As the eldest son of an eldest son, he inherited a targe and broadsword that had been handed down in his family for centuries. After high school, he attended the University of Edinburgh where he graduated in 2243. The next year he enrolled at Starfleet Academy from which he graduated and was made Associate Engineer at the San Francisco Shipyards.
Scotty was the former Academy aide for Admiral Archer's Advanced Relativistic Mechanics course and first in his class at Starfleet Academy, but his status was later revoked due to disciplinary action. After his debate with Admiral Archer, he tried to prove that his theory on Transwarp beaming by transporting the Admiral's prized beagle somewhere. Unfortunately, he was unable to locate the beagle.
Scotty believed that the blunder with Archer's beagle was the real reason that he was sent was then sent to the Delta Vega Federation outpost with his assistant Keenser, in late 2257, six months before the destruction of Vulcan. Scott was considered to be an outpost engineer. While there Scotty purchased a tribble from a trader named Jones for his nephew. In 2258 received two visitors, James T. Kirk and one Spock, who Scotty believed were sent by Starfleet to relieve him.
While there, Spock helped Scott perfect his theory on trans-warp beaming by giving him the finished version of the equation he had completed in the future. After reevaluating his new calculations, Kirk and Scott were able to beam aboard the Enterprise while it was moving at warp.
Scotty was then named chief engineer of the USS Enterprise. Following Kirk taking command of the Enterprise, Scott was able to beam him and Spock aboard the Narada. Scotty was then able to beam Kirk, Pike, and Spock from their two different places at the same time. This was a first for him and Starfleet. After the destruction of the Narada, he was forced to eject the warp core to create a blast to get the Enterprise away from the black hole's gravity well.
As chief engineer, Scott made sure the Enterprise outperformed the propulsion metrics for Constitution class ships. Starfleet had been worried about his logs, as the engineer criticized on multiple occasions the repair and procurement policies of Starfleet Engineering.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:
Kyle had just finished his meal and stood to take his tray to the replicator when badge chimed.
=^= Randall to Briggs. Report to my office right away. =^=
"On my way, sir." he replied.
He left the mess hall and headed for Lieutenant Randall's office. He was deep in thought the whole way. He couldn't think of anything wrong that he had done so he couldn't imagine why he was being called to the Operations Officers office. The turbolift doors parted and he made his way down the corridor. He approached his department chiefs' door and heard the chime announce his arrival.
"Come." he heard from the other side of the doors.
He stepped forward and entered as the doors separated.
"Ensign Briggs reporting as ordered, sir." he said after coming to attention.
"Have seat, Ensign." said Randall without looking up.
Kyle sat down and remained quite while he waited. A moment later, Lt. Randall finally looked at him as he slid a PADD across his desk toward Kyle.
"New orders, Ensign. You're leaving the Sierra." Randall told him.
"Put I've only been here a year, sir." Kyle said as his confusingly picked up the offered PADD and began reading.
It took him a few moments since he had to go through it twice. He couldn't believe his eyes. He was being promoted and reassigned as an Information Systems Specialist to the U.S.S. Talon. He allowed a brief smile to spread across his face. This was the second happiest day of his life right behind being accepted into Starfleet.
