It was pretty convenient that her friends lived on the same Deck as her. That's how she thought of it, even though Kirk and Spock being in Command meant that Nyota had moved to the Senior Staff floor, not the other way around. Still, it was good. Because she'd gotten close to the Senior Staff. Kirk and Spock especially, though she supposed they could throw Bones and Scotty in there too. Bones moreso than Scotty, if Nyota was being completely honest with herself. She didn't always get a chance to talk to the Chief Engineer – they just didn't work in the same area. Nyota was much more focused on her field, and she worked primarily on the Bridge, where Scotty worked in Engineering. There was no doubting he was a nice enough guy, though. Nyota tended to separate people on the ship by who did and didn't help bring Kirk back from the dead. The “did” group included herself and Bones, but mostly Spock (and Kirk, since he was, you know, dead). Everyone else was in the, well, “everyone else” group.
She would have invited Bones to this little get together if they had found the time to talk, but it had sort of been a last moment thing. She had run into Jim in the hallway and they had just randomly decided that they should pay Spock a house call. She remembered saying “I call bringing chips!” before darting off to her room to her pile of snacks. Yeah, she kept snacks, so what? Sometimes a girl couldn't get to lunch or something. She figured Jim had a better selection of alcoholic beverages than she did anyway, so food was probably just going to be her default item to bring to any sort of party.
The best part about this entire thing, was that Spock (as far as Nyota knew, since they had only just decided to do this) had no idea that they were coming. Of course, she lived only a few doors down from him, and Kirk lived right next to the guy, so they couldn't be too entirely sneaky. Nyota also decided to change real quick. She didn't want to be impromptu partying in her work uniform. So she switched the red dress out for a blue tank top and jeans, completely forgetting to put shoes back on, and heading out the door to meet Jim in front of Spock's room. Her hands were full of about five different bags of chips, and she waited outside for her... well she supposed tonight, Jim was her partner in crime.

Surprise party at Spock’s? Bam. Yes. It was a great idea. Kirk was always up for some team bonding. Especially when it involved alcohol. Getting Spock to drink had been a long standing goal of his, so when Nyota suggested that they grabbed some food and paid the guy a visit, Jim jumped on the opportunity. They had nothing else to do with their afternoon and Spock was in an undoubtedly similar position.. Whether the guy would admit it or not was another story. Of course, it wasn’t like they were going to take no for an answer. They’d worked hard planning this out. It took the whole walk between their rooms. You know.. five whole doors.
After grabbing a significant amount of alcohol from where he kept it stashed (I don't think I need to justify why Kirk has an alcohol stash, if you're surprised go to an orchard) Kirk ran out to meet Nyota. He hadn’t even thought to change, though he’d taken off his uniform shirt a long time ago, like.. the second he was off duty, leaving him in all black. He caught up with his partner in crime in front of Spock’s door, giving her a slightly odd look (because, really, who had that many chip varieties on standby?). Whatever. Kirk shifted the bottles so he was holding them all with one hand and banged on the door. ”Spock, open up! It’s your favorite people!”

i'm waking up, i feel it in my bones enough to make my systems blow
Every once in a while, there was time for peace. Spock could read with full concentration, quiet music being the only background noise. And every once in a while, as he found time to do this, something still managed to interrupt. He’d known who it was the moment he’d heard the banging. It was actually pretty foolish of him not to have been expecting it. Spock, open up! It’s your favorite people! He raised an eyebrow, otherwise not moving a muscle. ”I’m off duty, Captain,” he responded with monotony. ”Hello, Nyota,” he continued, because let’s face it, it wasn’t that hard to figure out who else was there. He did close his book and get up, knowing that he wasn’t going to be able to shake them off easily. He opened the door, a blank expression on his face. He backed away from the doorway in order to let them inside, glancing at the chips and alcohol. ”For what purpose do you bring this?” He asked in a very hesitant tone, not intending to consume any of it himself.

Finally (okay, it was probably only a few minutes, but it had felt like a long time), Kirk came out with the alcohol. She laughed as he loudly knocked on the door. “That was perfect. Subtle even, you know, for you,” she teased. This was going to be a good thing. They all needed a break. Okay, so nothing on the ship had really happened since they got their mission, but still, they needed a break from not doing things. Yeah, that was how she was going to justify this.
As soon as Spock opened the door, Nyota gave him a big smile... right before walking passed him, sans shoes, and putting the chips down on a table. “Hello, Spock. Thought we'd come cheer you up. Ya know, 'cause you're so full of sadness.” Yeah right, Spock was really full of hardly anything, or at least anything that he was willing to show. It had caused a few arguments already, but for now, she was going to put the fact that he looked neither pleased or angry to see them aside, and just take it as a good omen that he had allowed them in. Not that Nyota would have given him much choice.

”That was perfect. Subtle, even, you know, for you.” Kirk grinned widely. ”Thank you!” he responded, as if the compliment had taken him off guard, bowing with a flourish that had the alcohol bottles clanging against one another. ”I’m off duty, Captain.” ”Exactly! So open the door!” The guy didn’t have an excuse. Were he on duty he could have said that he was busy with something. Not that they really had much to be busy with. They’d pretty much been doing a whole lot of nothing since they set off. Which, really was much harder work than it sounded. The break was more than justified. If they didnt have one he was gong to go insane. ”Hello, Spock. Thought we’d come cheer you up. Ya know, ‘cause you’re so full of sadness.” Kirk let out a laugh. ”It’s a party,” he supplied helpfully, knowing the guy would need more of an explanation. Not that that actually explained very much. He set he bottles down on the table next to the chips, making himself comfortable in a chair. ”For what purpose do you bring this?" He tilted his head back, looking at them upside down. ”Ya know, for a genius you ask a lot of stupid questions.” He was just saying.. He thought it was pretty obvious. ”Have you really never had chips?” he asked, disbelievingly. The alcohol didn’t surprise him but… really? They had a lot of work to do. ”Its food. You eat them. These,” he picked up one of the bottles, ”are for drinking. They're good, trust me… Fine, trust Nyota.”

Exactly! So open the door! He sighed and succumbed. They were making themselves comfortable in seconds. Thought we’d cheer you up. Ya know, ‘cause you’re so full of sadness. Yea, that definitely needed more of an explanation. Spock gave the woman a confused look. He hadn’t been aware that he was sad. ”I’m not full—“ It’s a party, Okay, Spock wasn’t a real partier but he could have sworn those needed some sort of special occasion. ”Are we celebrating something?” He glanced at the chips and alcohol as Kirk explained, with evident obnoxiousness, what they were. Ya know, for a genius you ask a lot of stupid questions. The corner of his lips turned up slightly at the comment. ”Such a question does not exist.” After all, the only stupid question is that which goes unasked. Have you really never had chips? ”Does this surprise you?” Clearly, they were not necessary for consumption. There are for drinking. They’re good, trust me… Fine, trust Nyota. He looked at the woman questionably because yes, trusting Nyota was much safer than trusting James. He took a bottle from Kirk, analyzing it and quickly coming to a conclusion. ”This will impede my ability to use logic.” He didn’t really like the thought of that. ”I shall watch as you two drink it.”

“We're celebrating the fact that we've lived so far. I think that's reason enough.” Okay, so they hadn't been out that long either, but yay for not being dead! “Also, to surprise you.” She turned to look at Spock and smiled, “Were you surprised?” She pulled out her pony tail and shook her head, letting her hair fall, and turned back around, pointing at each bag of chips individually as she spoke. “Okay, so we have Classic BBQ, Orion Ranch – which I think is supposed to be really spicy, but I haven't tried it yet – Extra Cheesey, Taco Flavored, and Sour Cream and Onion. And no, I did not bring original; we're going to expand our flavor palet tonight.” She was actually pretty proud of the selection she had brought. Not that she believed for a second that she could get Spock to try any of it. Maybe she'd just have to crunch it up in his drink...
If they could get him to drink, that was. Kirk told him to trust her, and she nodded fast a few times and smiled. “Oh yeah, you can trust me. Would I really let something bad happen?” Of course, her definition of bad was probably completely different from his definition. Her definition of bad was running down the halls naked. Spock's definition was probably closer to cracking a smile. ”This will impede my ability to use logic. I shall watch as you two drink it.” Nyota grabbed a bottle of Jack and started rummaging around for soda in Spock's quarters. “That's just not acceptable, Spock. You have to join us in a drink.“ She turned around and faced Kirk. “We should have brought something to mix this with.”

”We’re celebrating the fact that we’ve lived so far. I think that’s reason enough.” ”Considering it’s us, I’m pretty impressed.” So what they’d done nothing yet? They hadn’t gotten bored and blown up the ship! It was a small victory. Spock did this thing that almost resembled a smile and Kirk grinned. ”Such a question does not exist.” ”Now, see, I know that’s a lie— You think half my questions are stupid.” Like when he asked if Spock had ever had any other hairstyles, or if he and Nyota had ever actually kissed. The guy never said it out loud but Kirk read into his faces and yanno… pretty much just made up whatever he wanted. Nyota explained in my detail what they were going to be eating and Kirk nodded his approval. Earth food was awesome. The alcohol was even better. Of course, Spock had no intentions of consuming either. ”You have to join us in a drink.” ”It’s considered impolite not to” he added. ”We should have brought something to mix this with.” He got up, joining her in looking through Spock’s things. He picked up a container. ”Is this juice? It looks like juice.” He smelled it uncertainly.

We’re celebrating the fact that we’ve lived so far… Considering it’s us, I’m pretty impressed. Spock raised an eyebrow, smirking slightly. ”Fair enough.” Were you surprised? ”Incredibly.” Though it’d been kind of stupid of him. Their arrival wouldn’t have been that difficult to predict. Now, see, I know that’s a lie—You think half my questions are stupid. ”I don’t consider them questions when they come from you.” They weren’t even worth the title because they were stupid and therefore demoted. Nyota started describing all the chip flavors and it was kind of overwhelming. How the hell was he supposed to know what he wanted? He looked at the bags curiously. And no, I did not bring original; we’re going to expand our flavor palet tonight. ”How exciting.” And terrifying. If he blew up or something he was blaming Nyota. Maybe trusting her was a bad idea. Oh yeah, you can trust me. Would I really let something bad happen? ”If something bad does happen, it is on your conscience.” There—he officially relieved himself of that responsibility. They wanted him to drink for crying out loud. That’s just not acceptable, Spock…It’s considered impolite not to. So was arriving at someone’s room without warning. ”Very well,” he agreed hesitantly, knowing he wasn’t going to get the two of them off his back about it. He did like them slightly… he could trust them. Is this juice? It looks like juice. Spock was very amused with the fact that Kirk had felt the need to smell it, though he didn’t want the guy to be too concerned. ”It’s juice,” he confirmed. ”What’s the point of drinking the alcohol when you’re only going to taint it first?” Mixing it kind of seemed like a waste but hey that was just him. He didn’t really have experience.

back in the atmosphere

It was difficult to surprise Spock, or maybe it wasn't and he just never really said he was surprised. In any case, Nyota's smile grew with the response that they had, in fact, surprised the vulcan. Nyota agreed with the fact that considering they had been chosen for the mission, it was incredibly lucky that they had had no problems at all. It was still early, certainly, but the only times they'd all been on a ship together – the whole three (if you count Nibiru when Spock was apparently okay with letting himself die so natives didn't see the damn ship... grrr) times before this – something had happened. Nibiru had been successful, but they'd introduced a primitive culture to warp technology, which was apparently a Prime Directive No-No.
The Liutenant picked up a bag of sour cream and onion and handed it to her boyfriend. “This should get you started. I don't think this will be too,” at this point she did her best Spock impression... which wasn't all that impressive but fun anyway, “offensive to the taste buds.” She gave him another smile and started raiding the room again. "I'm mostly confident that anything you do would be alright with me to be on my conscience." And then Spock brought up the question of why they were mixing it. She gave Jim an amused look and then looked back at Spock.
“I was gonna go easy on you, but if you're not opposed to drinking it straight we can certainly do that.” She gave up the search – Jim and apparently found juice anyway – and found a few glasses before sitting on a couch. She poured the equivalent of a shot in all three and separated them on the table for them to drink. “First shot together,” she gave Spock a pointed look that made it clear there would be no questioning despite her lower rank, and counted to three. “One... Two... THREE!” She tipped the glass back in her mouth and swallowed, making a slight face at the burn in her throat. “That's why I wanted to mix it.” She said, “Ready for another?”

”I don’t consider them questions when they come from you.” ”Ouch, Spock, I’m insulted.” Kirk said with an exaggeratedly affronted tone. He furrowed his eyebrows in thought, ”And slightly impressed. Have you been working with him?” The question was obviously directed at Nyota. The more time Spock spent with him the more the guy seemed to pick up sarcasm and James would be lying if he said it wasn’t one of the most entertaining things in the world. He laughed when Nyota did her impression of Spock, grabbing a bag of chips for himself. ”That was uncanny.” Okay.. so it wasn’t. But it was funny and that was all that mattered. That and the fact that apparently they were supposed to have consciences. Shit.. he didn’t get that memo. Well, good thing Nyota was talking responsibility. ”It’s juice.” Kirk moved the bottle away from his face, lifting it up and looking at the bottom. ”Normal juice?” he questioned again, ”Like from a fruit?” You know.. as opposed to a leaf or an insect… Kirk had learned the hard way not to trust anything he found lying around on the ship. ”I was gonna go easy on you, but if you’re not opposed to drinking it straight we can certainly do that.” ”Going all in on the first try,” Kirk nodded his head in approval, clapping the guy’s shoulder as he sat down next to him, ”I like that spirit Commander.” Okay so he was teasing the guy more than he was praising him but.. it was close. I mean.. both words were verbs.. with an a in them. Spock wasn’t captain ha. ”First shot together,” He lifted his glass. ”One… Two.. THREE.” Kirk downed the shot like it was nothing, eyeing the others (mostly Spock) curiously (he already knew that Nyota was capable of drinking).
