LIKES:
** Starfleet – He was born on Betazed but joined Starfleet instead of applying to schools on his planet.
**His family – This includes his parents (who were very supportive of his decision to go to a college on Earth and then join Starfleet) and his daughter (who, well, is his daughter)
**Space – He did join Starfleet
**His job – He is very fond of the Enterprise, and even though he is still only an Ensign, he does his job well and generally doesn't complain about it
**A nice suit – The Starfleet uniform is all well and good, but in his off time he can be found in either nice laid back clothes, or even a half suit.

DISLIKES:
**Adella – He doesn't really hate her, but he'd rather not see her if at all possible. They don't argue or make their child play telephone, but they aren't about to arrange meetings together either.
**Being half Betazoid – He mostly disliked this when he was a kid because his father could always tell when he was lying. As a result Jay was raised to be honest, even if he has something to say that someone else wouldn't want to hear. It might be the reason he is still an Ensign, because it has gotten him into a few problems.
**Being an Ensign – Oh sure, he won't complain about it, but could he move up a rank at some point? Really!
**That his daughter is a teenager – When did she grow up? Now he has to deal with worrying about her dating life and girly issues. Ugh.
**His name – Jay hates the name Jaylon. There's something just wrong about the name for him. For this reason, in social settings he usually goes by Jay or Logan (his middle name). He only uses Jaylon L. Wilde on official papers.

STRENGTHS:
**Honest – Being half Betazoid and having his father know all of his thoughts has led Jay to be an honest man. That doesn't mean that he can't lie, he just doesn't often. And only tries to when he absolutely has to or is ordered to.
**A good father – Jay is the rare man that has primary custody over his child. He raised her since she was one and he split with Adella. She is only living with her mother now because Jay is on a spaceship.
**Good at his job – Jay works in Navigation and is sometimes stationed on the Bridge when Sulu is not working.
WEAKNESSES:
**Telepathic – (not species realted because of reason) He views this as a weakness most of the time because there are few telepathic members on the Enterprise. He does his best to stay out of someone's head which is usually not a problem since he has to want to initiate telepathy to use it, like most telepathic races. However, Jay can get a little nosey and pops into minds without permission.
**Honest – This is also a weakness, mostly because this has been known to get him into trouble with Starfleet and also just make people feel really bad.
**His daughter – Jay usually puts his daughter's needs before his own, like he thinks a father should. Though he doesn't bend at her ever request (like when she didn't want him to request a ship mission), he will sacrifice his needs and desires if he believes something is best for his daughter.
GOALS:
**To move up at least one little rank.
**To prevent his daughter from ever, ever, ever getting involved with anyone... ever. (like that ever works out)
OVERALL:
Mr. Wilde is a normal every-day guy... if normal every-day guys were half betazoid. So the real trait would be, normal every-day half betazoid-half human guy. In any case, just like everyone he's got good traits and bad traits. His life is basically Starfleet and his daughter. At 34 years-old, Jaylon has a teenage daughter. He hadn't been planning on knocking up his girlfriend, but he wouldn't trade the experience because it gave him Diedre. Like most fathers, Jay would do just about anything for his daughter. She almost has him wrapped around her finger. On the downside (and upset I suppose), Jay is a very honest person. He hates lying because he always got caught as a child. He will only lie if he feels he absolutely has to. This means that Jay can be a painfully blunt person. He tends to not beat around the bush and instead just comes out and says whatever he's thinking. It's cost him promotions and relationships, but he'd be lost if it was suggested that he should change this aspect of his life.

Jaylon was born in 2226. Only his parents would know why they named him Jaylon, but the boy himself never liked the name. It didn't even sound like a real name. At least his middle name was normal – Logan. When he was ten years old and had suffered the Betazoid version of the first years of elementary and middle school, the boy demanded that his parents stop calling him Jaylon. It embarrassed him even though the kids at school didn't make fun of him. It was a more normal name than most of the other part Betazoids that went to school with him. He insisted that people call him Jay or refer to him by his middle name.

When he was eleven, Jay got a baby sister. It was a little weird at first that he was eleven years older than Jena (a name he was jealous of because it passed as human and betazoid) but he loved her instantly. That was the largest their family was going to get. After Jena his parents stopped having children. That was fine with Jay, since he didn't really want to be separated by any siblings by any more years.

After he graduated from school on Batazed, Jay approached his parents about one of the few things he'd been successful on keeping from them – his application to Oxford. His parents could tell that he was nervous, but since they were neutral with the Federation and had no problems with Earth, they were supportive. At seventeen Jay moved to Earth and studied at Oxford. He met Adella there his first year. At eighteen he accidentally got her pregnant and 8 months later (due to mixed race pregnancy) Jay and Adella had Diedre.

Jay was at Oxford for four years before he graduated and joined Starfleet, something else he was nervous about telling his parents since Batazed had their own space program, but Jay had come to identify more with the Federation's values. They were supportive again, though Jay could tell they weren't exactly thrilled about the idea. Adella followed him to Starfleet but their relationship ended after another year, making them a couple for five years. When they split Jay was surprisingly able to get primary custody of his daughter, though it hadn't been an issue where the parents were competitive. Adella had higher ambitions and admitted that Jay would be a more responsible parent. Not because she would be a bad mother, but because she was smart enough to realize she'd have more supervision with the father.

At Starfleet he declared his main focus on Navigation, hoping to pilot a ship one day. He had a minor focus in Engineering, just for something to fall back on, though he wasn't as interested in the subject. Instead of living in a dorm he was granted permission to live in an apartment nearyby because of his daughter. He graduated in the usual four years, afterwhich he began an internship with the organization. While Jay was at class or work Diedre stayed with a babysitter, though some days he would bring her to work with him. In 2256 Jay accepted a job as a professor teaching Navigation at Starfleet. He was later assigned to the Enterprise in 2259 for the Nibiru mission, which posed a problem since he could not take his daughter with him. He and Adella, having a mostly civil relationship, worked out that since Diedre was now fifteen, she would stay with her mother and just have to be a responsible teenager when Adella had to work.

Jay returned to Earth and his job and daughter after the mission, but was only there for a short time. He was reassigned to the Enterprise for the five year exploration mission. His daughter (now sixteen) stayed with her mother again, but Jay has hopes that his daughter will graduate high school in two years and immediately apply to Starfleet insetead of taking the college route (awkward parental values there) because he would like to have her on the ship with him (and hopefully out of trouble... and away from boys her age).
